Taking cognisance of the impending security threats, the Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA) has equipped itself with one of the most modern ‘intelligent video surveillance system’ (enVigil), which was inaugurated on Monday by director general D Sivanandan.
The system, comprising of cameras, video management system and application softwares, is one of the most modern and fitted with all international features of a vigilance system. It is fitted by Revmax security systems and Cradle Technologies and will man the 250 acres area of the MPA.
The security threat to MPA was evident last year when a Pakistan-based operative, Bilal, was arrested in Nashik with photographs and maps of one of the most prestigious police training academies in Maharashtra.
It was found that the operative had entered the premises and taken videos and photographs of the parade at MPA. Investigation also revealed possibilities of a plan for a terror attack on police installations like the ones conducted in Pakistan earlier.
Recognising the need for a surveillance system, the enVigil NVSS has been installed. It has 15 cameras, in addition to the existing 28. The system is fitted with 28 KBPs lines for precise and fast digital transmission.
The cameras are enabled with day and night visibility, have face recognition ability, which will store an image of the face and match it with any new image. This feature has the advantage of recognising a person even if he/she comes with different make-ups.
The system also has an auto number plate recognition mode — the number plate of any vehicle entering will be read and stored by it. The system has two-way audio, a trip system and other standard international features.
